Latest trend : 80s is back
Why is it that all trends seem to come back around? I have some friends who own a great designer second hand clothing shop called Cenci, and they are constantly inundated by what we might classify as “top” designers who come along and recreate old designs from 15 years ago and make it there own.
When it comes to jewellery designs, the latest trend to come back is the 80s. This brings back memories of Dallas and Dynasty. I was only a young girl back then, but I remember trying on my mum’s huge gold clip on earrings and desperately wanting a perm. Being big and bold was the mantra. Power and money was the design and big and gold was the best way to show this. It seems that prices for these pieces have increased significantly over the past few years. Could this be paralleled with the increasing price in gold? Potentially, although I am sure I remember a lot of this seemingly real gold jewellery to be fake.
Charm bracelets were huge in the 80s, this is a perfect example of ideas coming back around. Large animals with fake diamonds and semi-prescious stones also spring to mind. Alot of the fashion houses such as YSL and Chanel are brining back these vintage pieces. Branding defined the 1980s look, so big names are key.
